Author Shares Stories and Life of Minnie Pearl

On May 14, Mary Ellen Pethel shared the stories and humor of the one and only Minnie Pearl during the general membership meeting of the Friends of the Brentwood Library. Pethel, author of Howdy! The Minnie Pearl Story and a professor at Belmont University, wrote the book with Don Cusic, and regaled the audience of Friends members with stories of Sarah Ophelia Colley growing up in Franklin, her life as a young society woman, and how she developed the persona that eventually became known worldwide as Minnie Pearl.

Members in attendance were treated to a delectible buffet of southern “bites” from none other than Puckett’s in Franklin, and enjoyed plenty of time to socialize and meet and greet new members and friends before the business meeting that evening.
